Closing the Gaps
in VTE Care
VTE is a Significant Health Issue and Burden on the Health System
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). These blood clots often go undetected due to misdiagnosis of symptoms and low awareness, and can put a significant burden on the health system.
~900,000
Americans affected by VTE1
About how much it costs the U.S. a year to care for VTE patients2
~26%
of PE cases may experience diagnostic delays3
Up to 53%
of inpatient PE patients might be misdiagnosed4
people will develop DVT at some point in their life5
up to 50% of people who have had a DVT will have long-term complications6
Navigating the Patient Journey
Get Out the Clot is a collaborative educational initiative uniting leading medical societies, patient advocacy organizations, healthcare providers, and other leaders in blood clot care to address gaps and discrepancies in treating VTE. The campaign aims to work toward standardizing care for blood clot conditions, including expanding access to the latest innovations to improve patient outcomes.
